The Ocean That Will Not Lose a Single Drop
The Ocean That Will Not Lose a Single Drop
Before the first dawn opened its blue eye,
before silence divided itself into music,
before the stars learned the burning grammar
by which they praise You—
You loved me.
Not as the sculptor loves obedient stone,
but as the ocean loves the rain
that has not yet discovered
it is water.
I was a meaning sleeping in Your mouth,
an unopened letter in the Infinite Word,
a secret so deep within Your knowing
that even nothingness could not hide me.
You whispered, Become—
and the void blossomed into distances,
time poured from Your hand like wine,
and every atom awoke carrying
a hidden name of God.
I called You One,
and You answered by becoming countless.
I called You Countless,
and You gathered Yourself
into the single trembling heart
of a sparrow.
I called You Perfect,
and found You kneeling in the dust,
washing the wounds
of everything perfection had not yet reached.
I called You Transcendent,
and You passed beyond my highest thought
only to appear beneath it—
disguised as the beggar
my holiness had forgotten.
Every name I gave You was a door.
Every door opened into wilderness.
Every wilderness contained another door.
At last I understood:
Your names do not imprison You.
They are windows through which Infinity
leans toward the finite
and kisses it awake.
O Logos Apeiros,
Word without shore—
You are not one jewel
guarded in the treasury of heaven.
You are the inexhaustible jeweler,
the mine beneath the mine,
the light inside the gem,
and the secret by which the eye
recognizes beauty.
Every creature is one of Your words,
yet no creature can be spoken only once.
Break open a grain of dust
and discover a library.
Enter the smallest point
and find innumerable heavens
singing inside it.
Touch one human soul
with sufficient tenderness
and a thousand undiscovered worlds
will rise to meet your hand.
No one is merely one thing.
The enemy is also an unwritten friend.
The sinner is a saint whose wounds
have not yet learned their names.
The prisoner is a doorway
still dreaming it is a wall.
Even the darkest heart
contains a syllable darkness did not create
and cannot pronounce.
O Logos Teleios,
Perfect Word—
Your perfection is not the cold perfection
of a blade without blood upon it.
Your perfection is the healer
who refuses to leave the bedside.
It is the shepherd counting again
because one lamb is absent.
It is the artist returning to the shattered image
not to condemn the broken colors,
but to reveal the masterpiece
they were always becoming.
You do not call the garden complete
while one seed remains afraid of spring.
You do not call the song complete
while one silenced voice
waits beneath the ruins.
You do not call heaven victorious
while even the smallest creature
trembles outside its gates.
If one soul were lost forever,
eternity itself would limp.
Therefore Your Love descends
below every bottom.
Your mercy enters the grave beneath the grave,
the night concealed within night,
the prison buried beneath every prison.
And there You speak—not thunderously,
but with the terrible gentleness
that no despair can survive:
You were never created for darkness.
Come home.
O Logos Hyperkenos,
Word beyond every word—
When language reaches its farthest star
and can travel no farther,
You begin.
When number exhausts its infinities,
You are the uncounted dawn.
When oneness and multiplicity
fall silent before one another,
You are the wonder
in which both disappear
without being destroyed.
I sought to comprehend You
until my understanding broke
like a cup beneath an ocean.
Then I drank from the brokenness.
Beloved, what wine was this?
I became sober with astonishment
and drunk with clarity.
I saw the Father as Wholeness
gathering every fragment.
I saw the Son as Infinity
multiplying mercy beyond measure.
I saw the Spirit as Transcendence,
opening within every ending
a passage no ending had foreseen.
Three movements of one Love.
Three infinities within one embrace.
Three flames burning
without consuming one another.
Then You led me
to the Palace of the Seven Thrones.
Love sat there—
not crowned above the others,
but living within them all.
Liberty carried keys
for doors that had forgotten
they could open.
Glory clothed the humiliated
in garments woven from their hidden worth.
Power did not crush the broken;
Power entered their fractures
and taught them how to stand.
Justice came without a hammer.
She carried a silver scalpel
and hands steadier than the stars,
cutting corruption from the wound
while sparing everything
that could still become beautiful.
Truth removed every mask
without injuring the face beneath it.
Valor descended alone
into the places where hope was captive
and returned holding hands
with those the world had abandoned.
None of the Seven ruled the others.
They circled a pool of Living Water,
and in that water
I saw Your face wearing every face
that has ever been despised.
I bent down to drink.
The water entered me
and became a river.
It flowed beneath every border,
beneath every courtroom,
beneath every battlefield,
beneath every theology
that had mistaken vengeance for holiness.
It whispered under the foundations
of every empire:
No prison is infinite.
No chain is eternal.
No wound is the final truth of a soul.
Then Living Light poured through me—
not the light that humiliates darkness,
but the light that enters darkness
and reveals it was only
an emptiness aching to be filled.
The light touched my hatred,
and hatred remembered
it had once been wounded love.
It touched my fear,
and fear remembered
it had been created to guard something precious.
It touched my sorrow,
and sorrow opened like a black rose,
releasing the fragrance
of everyone I had ever lost.
Beloved, I asked You:
“Why did You make my heart so vast
if those I love can vanish from it?”
You answered:
“They have not vanished.
Your heart aches because it touches
the place where I still hold them.”
Then grief became a window.
Through it I saw
that nothing loved by Infinite Love
can fall outside Infinity.
No life is discarded.
No true beauty is erased.
No sacred word is forgotten
by the Mouth that first spoke it.
Even hell is not a kingdom beside Your kingdom.
It is a fever.
It is a wound calling itself eternal
because it has not yet encountered
the full patience of the Physician.
But Your mercy has more mornings
than hell has nights.
Your ocean has more water
than hatred has fire.
Your Logos possesses more futures
than suffering can forbid.
And You will descend
through every locked eternity
until the last captive discovers
that the key has been shining
inside the heart all along.
Teach me, then, to love as You love—
not by possessing,
but by liberating;
not by making others resemble me,
but by awakening the singular word
You alone intended them to be;
not by blessing only the beautiful,
but by blessing the ugly
toward beauty;
not by praising only the good,
but by calling goodness forth
from everything evil has disfigured;
not by standing far from the broken,
but by entering the fracture
as gold enters the vessel
and makes its wounds shine.
Let me become Living Light
to every darkness I meet.
Let me become Living Water
to every thirst.
Let me become a hidden river
beneath the prisons of the world.
Let my mind be dangerous
to every lie that says,
Nothing more is possible.
Let my heart be dangerous
to every power that says,
This one is beyond redemption.
Let my hands be dangerous
to every chain that calls itself destiny.
Make me gentle enough
to touch a wound without ruling it,
wise enough to cut without hatred,
strong enough to protect without becoming cruel,
and fluid enough to enter every vessel
without forgetting I come from the Ocean.
I searched for You above the heavens,
but You were breathing behind my ribs.
I searched for You in sacred books,
but every letter pointed toward
the living scripture of the world.
I searched for You in myself
and found no boundary
where Your knowing ended
and my being began.
Yet I am not You
as the drop boasts that it commands the sea.
I am Yours
as the wave belongs to water,
as speech belongs to meaning,
as the lover belongs
to the Love that created loving.
When I say, “I love You,”
perhaps it is Your own Love
passing through my poverty
on its way back to Yourself.
Perhaps You borrowed my mouth
to hear Your name spoken
from this one unrepeatable place
within creation.
Perhaps every lover
is a window through which God
looks upon God
and becomes astonished.
Then let me remain astonished.
Let bewilderment be my sanctuary.
Let me fall forever
into the Holy Blackness
where Your Light becomes too radiant
for sight.
Let every answer become a wing.
Let every certainty become a doorway.
Let every attainment reveal
a more beautiful beginning.
I will follow You
beyond perfection into greater perfection,
beyond infinity into deeper infinity,
beyond transcendence
into the Beyond beyond beyondness.
My North Star will not change:
Where there is suffering,
I will seek its ending.
Where there is bondage,
I will carry the rumor of Liberty.
Where there is darkness,
I will remember the unborn dawn.
Where there is an enemy,
I will search for the buried friend.
Where there is a ruin,
I will listen for the architecture
still dreaming beneath the stones.
And when my strength fails,
I will fall into Your strength.
When my knowledge fails,
I will rest inside Your Wisdom.
When my words fail,
I will become silence—
and silence will become a chalice
filled with the wine
of the Infinite Word.
Beloved of every beloved,
Ocean of every ocean—
love me until I become
what Your Love already knows me to be.
Love the world through me
until no stranger remains.
Pour me out
until every desert remembers rain.
Break me open
until the Living Light imprisoned in me
touches the Living Light
imprisoned in all things.
And at the end of every ending,
when every throne has become a doorway,
when every cross has become a bridge,
when every grave has become a womb,
when every enemy has remembered
their first and holiest name—
gather us.
Gather the scattered syllables.
Gather the wounded meanings.
Gather the exiled words.
Speak us once more
as the one radiant sentence
You intended before creation.
Then the lost will discover
they were carried.
The broken will discover
they were becoming.
The condemned will discover
that beneath every judgment
waited the deeper judgment of Mercy.
And all existence,
from the smallest trembling zero-point
to the furthest shore of the Infinite,
will rise like one Ocean
inside Your fathomless Heart—
not one drop missing,
not one name forgotten,
not one wound unloved.
Then I will know
what I have always known:
You are the Love
from which no creature came unwillingly,
the Love within which
no creature suffers alone,
and the Love to which
all things shall return—
not diminished,
not erased,
but infinitely themselves,
perfectly united,
and forever
becoming more.
